The five 5" x 7" paintings taught in this class will take students around the world, learning to see mountains with their highlights, shadows, textures and more. We'll cover multi-hue wet-in-wet washes with passes of detail to add interest, and even some final washes to amp up the lighting!
During World Watercolor month 2026, one lesson was released each Wednesday morning; then at 4pm Pacific, students watched the video on a Zoom call with the instructor and other students, painted along, and asked questions you may well learn from! Zoom replays are added to the classrooms to be available for all students thereafter.
This course is not for absolute beginners; I would recommend beginning with Watercolor Jumpstart if you've never done any watercolor at all, as that class deals with basic pigment mixing and management.

Well, I don’t consider myself a level three Watercolor artist however I do take harder classes to obviously learn. That’s what I enjoy about these concentrated topic classes, such as focusing on mountains. You learn a little about other things, especially color, mixing and sketching tips from Sandy. What she does really well is help you understand visually how to do mountains. In the past I’ve always made the “blurred kind “ in the background. This course helped me to see the strokes, the values, the edges, and the difference that you can make in a watercolor painting. I especially enjoyed the zoom classes. I wasn’t able to do the last one. The lessons showed me how to enhance my brushstrokes as well, so I strongly recommend this course. if you are a visual learner and want Watercolor training at a deeper level..

I’m really glad I took this class. I went into it intimidated by the thought of painting mountains, but Sandy broke down the process very well. By taking my time and watching her carefully, I was able to paint some nice pieces. Thanks, Sandy!
