For a level 4 class, a solid foundation of colored pencil understanding is required, as is at least some confidence in drawing simple art on a blank page. No perspective is involved in this course, just backgrounds. Colors for each lesson are provided, but not on-screen, as students are to work with colors they have in their collection.

Oh, what fun it is! Colored pencil has always seemed tedious and slow to me. This class has changed my mind. The drama created by coloring on black paper is so quick and easy to achieve with Sandy’s designs and techniques. The class is rated as a Level 4, but honestly, I think great results are achievable for most people. If you can draw simple lines and shapes (they don’t have to be perfect), you can do it. The video format is perfect for me – I generally just watch it once, then play it again, starting and stopping as I follow along. Sandy’s supply recommendations, particularly the paper, plastic eraser and electric eraser) made a difference for me. If you want to make quick, easy, beautiful holiday cards, I highly recommend this class.
Side note: I also recommend joining Sandy’s Artventure community. You can share your work, ask questions, get advice and see what others are creating. It’s fun and it’s free.

I really enjoyed this class! It helped me gain confidence and skill in using my colored pencils. The class doesn’t require advanced drawing skills which allows you to focus on the techniques. I never thought I could achieve such luminous effects with my colored pencils! But much of that is owed to Sandy’s teaching style and presentation.
I’m looking forward to using what I’ve learned to create my own “magical” scenes using these fun techniques!

I liked that I had all but one of the supplies on hand, I only had to purchase the black paper. I was hesitant to purchase this class at first, because I wasn’t sure how I would like drawing on black paper and this is the most expensive class that I have purchased from Sandy. Well I’m so glad I decided to go for it, I was pleasantly surprised at all of the techniques and ideas Sandy taught in this class, I couldn’t wait to do each lesson to see what she would teach next. This class is well worth the price and I can’t wait to do more of my own ideas, with all that I’ve learned.
