What does "intermediate" mean here? The class is taught with paper and pens - no stamps, no sketches, no net! That doesn't mean it's going to be terribly difficult, but it does mean that at least a basic facility with watercolors is a must. Watercolor Jumpstart is a good prerequisite, as it goes over some of the basic water and pigment management that will be practiced in this course. Some experience with making brushstrokes and handling pigments is needed; as well as the willingness to be open and experiment on the paper. Â
This class is appropriate for artists working in any genre - cardmaking, fine art, animé, etc. Lessons are demonstrated on large sheets of scrap (the backs of old paintings) then a finished card-sized image taught on a small paper - each is 4-1/2" x 6" but can be adapted to a larger size as desired - just remember if you double the size of the paper, you may need to double the size of brushstrokes.

I found these lessons to be deceptively difficult as it pushes you to have good water management and dry brush skills. The lessons are short and can be practiced repeatedly without requiring a huge time investment. The act of doing these simple shapes repeatedly using different brushes, different amounts of water, different pressure is really valuable in growing as a watercolor artist.
Even if you don’t have any desire to make your own greeting cards, I still recommend this class as a great “skills growing” class. I need to sit down and work through these lessons again both to see how my skills have improved but also to learn more about these important watercolor fundamentals.
