Learn to draw realistically in pen and ink! This course for beginner will show you how to work from a photograph, assess the kind of line technique that can work well with it, and choose pen widths to accomplish it. The images are simple ones from nature – plants of various types — and you'll create a reference collection of sketches that you'll refer to for years to come.
In this course you'll practice applying techniques to different styles of drawing; like clean and finished with sharp lines and precise details. Other styles use expressive linework and bold strokes to create more energetic or dynamic effects, sometimes with brush pens for varied line thickness. Drawings in class will aim toward realism, using detailed hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling to accurately capture form and light. We'll employ different techniques to achieve everything from delicate sketches to bold designs.
No drawing experience is required for this class, as you'll be able to trace the images onto your paper. You'll learn several methods for doing so.
