“A line is a dot that went for a walk.”
-Paul Klee. artist
While “serious” art is what many of us focus on – there are times to create just for the sake of a smile. No deep purpose or meaning – just to bring some joy and lightheartedness into the world. Let a “dot” go for a walk, right?
A friend of mine has been undergoing a serious bout of depression lately. The state of the world around her has gotten overwhelming, and she’s told me that hope is far from her right now. That broke my heart! I believe there’s always hope, even when everything in the newspaper or mailbox may try to scream otherwise.
As we texted, I looked at my phone – and my phone case is the “Beaker” drawing above; I uploaded it to Society6 so I could order it as a phone case (thinking that holding it up to take pics, his face would make people smile!)….and I decided she needed one, too. I ordered one, and dropped it into the mailbox…
After it arrived, she let me know by texting me with a screen full of smiley faces. We had a long chat about Beaker, who also happens to be her favorite Muppet – and I think that went a long way to lifting her spirits. She’ll be able to relive a little of that joy every time she picks up her phone.
I’m glad I let that dot go for a walk and turn into Beaker – perhaps this week you’ll be inspired to create some art that will spread smiles all around!
