Hex Chart Class: Preclass

Welcome to the preclass lesson!

I hope you’re excited to learn how to use your hex chart – whether pencil or alcohol marker!

Each lesson will teach different color theory terms, show photos that show those concepts, and my sketches that illustrate using them. Pencil and marker sketches will be shown for each lesson.

The lessons do not teach how to draw those items though, but you’ll see short clips of some that show how the color idea works, and in others you’ll see selection of colors on hex charts, and samples created on swatch charts too.

You are NOT expected to create advanced sketches as shown! Create simple drawings to practice coloring on, or use stamped or digital images as desired. Swatch sheets are provided for you to practice on as well.

Read the note below about setting up a notebook like mine shown; that also is not required.

Before we start…a little housekeeping

I retain the copyright to the content you are learning in class. That means…

  1. Do not sell or give away the concepts from my classes – you may not re-teach my instruction contained or created within these lessons.
  2. Do not post a video tutorial or step by step photo tutorial of your own redraw of class content.
  3. Do not repost any handouts you receive in class.

However…I love to see students making strides and taking this teaching and personalizing it with your own skills.

  1. DO make your own designs and develop your own style! I love that!
  2. DO gift your creations made with these techniques, of course!

At the bottom of each lesson you’ll see some ways to share your homework and ask questions, so that’ll be handy for you.

Video: Supplies

A discussion of supplies needed for this course.

Supplies:

This course doesn’t require specific supplies or colors; use the ones you already have. These will be used at different times through out the class but use the brand YOU own:

  3. Papers:

 The notebook:

You do NOT need to create the notebook for this class! However I know many students like to have a grouped collection of learnings, so I’ll be providing PDFs for you to use if desired. (blank ones so you can create your own desired drawings or stamping), and a completed color version from my book that you could print out and place in the notebook.

You might also have a large notebook – and could simply put the single pages in that, without cutting them in half.

  1. Avery Mini 3 Ring Binder, 1/2 Inch Round Rings
  2. Avery Heavyweight Clear Sheet Protectors for Mini Binders, 8.5″ x 5.5″

Note that the sheet protectors are part of some Amazon program that says it doesn’t allow me to link to it. I think this link should work but if not, you can do a search for the sheet protectors and find the ones I purchased. The title here is the one to search for.
