Dimensional Surfaces: Preclass

Welcome to Dimensional Surfaces class! This lesson discusses supplies you might like to have on hand.

For each design provided, you’ll have a PDF to print out with two images – and demos in the lessons will cover both. Note that many steps are repeats given the type of design, so not every minute of footage is included.

Before we start…a little housekeeping

I retain the copyright to the content you are learning in class. That means…

  1. Do not sell or give away the concepts from my classes – you may not re-teach my instruction contained or created within these lessons.
  2. Do not post a video tutorial or step by step photo tutorial of your own redraw of class content.
  3. Do not repost any handouts you receive in class.

However…I love to see students making strides and taking this teaching and personalizing it with your own skills.

  1. DO make your own designs and develop your own style! I love that!
  2. DO gift your creations made with these techniques, of course!

At the bottom of each lesson you’ll see some ways to share your homework and ask questions, so that’ll be handy for you.

Video: Welcome!

Just a a quick look at supplies needed for the course.

Paper

You may use your favorite paper, but this is what I highly recommend:

  1. Legion Stonehenge Drawing Pad BLICK  AMZ  JACKSONS

Sharpener

Most any sharpener will be great – but be sure it’s nice and sharp. If you get crunchy wood or tips that just won’t get sharp – you might need a new blade.

  1. General’s All-Art sharpener BLICK |  AMZ |  JACKSONS
  2. Afmat Long Point Pencil Sharpener Handcrank or USB rechargeable
  3. Dahle Dual hole pencil sharpener BLICK  AMZ

Blending

DRY blending will be used for the vast majority of course work.

  1. Blending Stump set  (get a variety of sizes including tiny ones) BLICK  AMZ  JACKSONS

WET blending will be used for only one lesson – and if you’d prefer to use dry blending that’s totally great. These designs are small enough that wet blending is a bit difficult. If a blending solution is difficult to find in your area, you might even try isopropyl alcohol, which has a lighter effect than gamsol.

  1. Gamblin or other brand of blending solution (for one lesson, and you don’t need to do wet blending, just skip this item if you’d like. BLICK  AMZ
  2. Jars for solvent above AMZ

Sharpeners and some optional items

  1. Westcott Wooden Dusting Brush BLICK  AMZ
  2. Nail file 100/180 Grit Emery Board File AMZ  to clean off blending stumps
  3. Generals The Miser Pencil Extender BLICK
  4. E and M Peanpole Pencil Extender BLICK  AMZ  JACKSONS
