Three big things included in this bit of news: a new pencil course, a World Cardmaking Day party, and plans for Inktober!
New Colored Pencil class!
It’s been a while since a new course has been released in colored pencil….but now that countdown clock gets re-set! The Dimensional Surfaces course (not to be confused with the Google search result:…A two-dimensional manifold, meaning that a point moving on it has two independent directions of movement or degrees of freedom…
I honestly don’t know what all that means, but in this class, it’s all about creating dimension that looks real on the surface of your paper! You’ll learn about creating raised (embossed) and lowered (debossed) levels in your art. Convex and concave shading. Using color shifts by the way you mix them on the paper. And so much more! See a little preview here:

In the class you’ll receive a basic piece of line art which you’ll learn to draw in two opposite ways – and you’ll never look at a piece of line art as having only one “right” way to end up as finished art!

World Cardmaking Day Livestream
I haven’t celebrated this holiday in a number of years, but since I have many card parts stored up to assemble, I thought I’d do it with all of you in a YouTube livestream! Get your own materials ready, knock out a bunch of holiday cards or whatever you need. Sit and color, chat, and we’ll enjoy the time together. So wait a minute. What are those blue cards on the left!? Why I’m glad you asked! It’s the new collection of card sketches—the latest fundraiser here on this website! Since the crafters I worked with for so many years in Operation Write Home were the inspiration for creating this, I’m donating from the proceeds to Wounded Warriors through the end of 2026. The charity may change from time to time, but I hope that we can, as a community, help lots of people!
October Reflections in Watercolor
Create beautiful light as it dances on water! October Reflections will teach you how to think about the light you’re seeing, and what it could entail to capture it. Then in four paintings ranging in complexity, you’ll follow demonstrations of different types of water surfaces, learning how to apply color and value to make your watercolors sparkle.

Inktober’s coming
Many of you celebrate Inktober….and in addition to my normal work on the prompts they provide, I’m developing another of my 30 day classes! Stay tuned for news about a month-long course – combining wash and ink, and whimsical doodling of subjects seen at a state fair. Registration won’t start til September 30, but I’ll post more info right here as soon as I work out some more details this week! -SandyDiscover more from Art Classes
